Cena, Arboles, y Curso

Wensday, July 30, 2008 8:15
I just fineshed eating cena. I think the reason that I call all the meals by their spanish names is because lunch is at two and is as big as dinner and dinner is at nine and as big as breakfast. We always have our evnig walk right before cena. Today on our eveing walk we saw a really big fountain, ate some pan dulce in one of the plazas, and saw this really, REALLY cool church.

There are lots of really neat churches, but this one was especially nice. There are a lot of trees on the sidewalks and in the plazas that are all kept carefully trimed into cilendars and cubes. Here is a photo of some fancy trees in a plaza:

And here is an example of one you'd see everywhere:

At science club (!!WARNING!! This is going to be called curso from now on) today I took home the flower I soaked half in red water and half in blue water. I was suprised that instead of turning purple with rage that it's stem was split, the flower turned half blue with loss of blood and half red with rage. We also made little bags with dirt and grass seed and put faces on them so that when the grass grows it will make a doll with hair.

Resiclando Botellas

Teusday, July 29, 2008
I just fineshed eating comida. It was pasta with tomato sause and pineapple and turkey. I think Hilda (our host) made the sause herself because it's really good and I saw her makeing salsa the other day. Before comida Ruth and I were at a "science" club, but I think that it's more like an arts and crafts club. I think that science club today was a lot better than yesterday because yesterday we just listened to the teacher talk about "resiclando botellas" and painted pictures of trees. Today we decorated paper bags, listened to the teacher talk about "resiclando botellas" a little less than yesterday, played with play-dough, made volcanoes out of vinegar and bkeing soda, and played with water balloons. If you want to comment, don't expect answers until about three weeks.

Second day in Querètaro

I appologise for my curent and future lack of formal conduct. (Whatever that means) Bloging in Mexico is more difficult than it seems. My spelling may tend to have errors occasinally, and my entrys may be late. pay no attention to the green bold date. The true date shall be written above my entrys, and not centered. I might be able to write some formal entrys if dad get the internet to work. Well, more than enough is enough. welcome to my first inderect blog entry.

Today is my second day in Queretaro, Mexico. We just fineshed eating comida, which sort-of means lunch, but is eaten around 2:30. Comida is the main meal in mexico. Dinner is about the same size as breakfast, but you eat actuall dinner foods, not just cereal. All the buldings, including normal houses on normal streets have a unique and slightly irregular design. We go for lots of waks around town. The sidewalks and roads are bumpy and cracked, it's like you're in an ancient antuique shop. We get to go to panederias (bakerys) that they make everything there in the back of the of the store. Literally, it's not open in morning 'cus they have to cook the pan. When we ate comida I kept noticeing how much better the food that is freshly made is compared to something lik McDonalds.

Track and Feild

Today was my second day at track and field. We did hammer throw, pole vault, triple jump, javelin, pool, hurtles, and sprinting. It was very fun. My favorite was the javelin.

Camping on the Channel Islands

I couldn't blog while I was camping, so here is a "late" blog entry of my camping trip:
July 17, 2008
Today is my birthday! AND WE'RE GOING CAMPING ON THE CHANNEL ISLANDS!!! Yesterday I got a chicken pox shot (which hurt when I got it), a tetanus shot (which was very sore when I got it and is going to still be a little swollen in three days (present time)), and a hepatitis A shot, that didn't hurt in the past, present, or future. Today at 46 minutes past midnight Mom woke me up to take a typhoid pill that has a nausea side effect. I got up in the morning and the nausea had started. It wasn't that bad. then we waited at the harbor for our boat to come, and got on the boat. We had just gotten out of the harbor when we saw this big red buoy packed with sea lions. some of them were shedding their fur, looking white and fluffy. Some of them were trying repeatedly to get on to the buoy but kept slipping off the backs of the others. We saw lots of dolphins, passed an oil rig, an enormous container ship with train cars stacked 5-6 high passed us, and then we got to Santa Cruz Island. We climbed trees, went on a hike, and came back and ate lunch and brownies. Then we went snorkeling. The water is so clear, it's like you're swimming in a fish tank! We saw some bright orange fish, light blue fish, and gray fish. We also swam through kelp forests, looked at thousands of bright purple sea urchins, but no coral. Ruth and I found this path made by a little landslide on a hill that is almost a cliff. We hiked up it and watched the sunset. We called that view channel 1. That is one of the best views I have ever seen. We turned around and admired the view on the other side. There's this place where the cliffs part and you can see the ocean. We came back the next morning to see the sunrise and what do know; the sun rose on that very spot. And did I mention the channel island fox? It was sooo cute!! here's a photo dad got of it:

Yep, that was definitely the best birthday party I ever had.

Lemon Lake

Today we rode the canoe over lemon lake. The lake is flooded in the summer, so we like to paddle across it and imagine what it was like in the winter. there are some parts of the lake the lake that have trees growing in them and I can't see the bottom of. There are also parts of the lake that are so shallow that I can reach out over the side and touch the grass, yet we were able to paddle in that section. When we got out and hiked around Dad pushed over a few burnt trees and made a big cloud of dust. We also saw a fawn, but no mother deer.

Aunty's Lake and DEEER

Today we went to my great-aunt's lake. I rode on the inner tube and rode the boat around with my 5-year-old second cousin following me around playing a game where he's batman and I'm a pirate. I convinced Dad, Aunty, and Johnny to try riding on the inflatable whale that tips over all the time. It was very funny to watch. Back at Nana and Papa's house we saw a mommy deer nursing a fawn. It was REAL neat. The fawn was drinking milk and the mommy deer was licking the fawn's bottom. When the mommy ran away the fawn couldn't keep up and got lost. It actually walked up to us! Honestly, Ruth said that it was 12 feet away from us. She is saying "IIIIIIIIII VOOOOW THAAAAAT..." right now. And when the fawn went away it bounced up and down instead of running away it bounced up and down with it's legs perfectly strait.

Inner Tubing at the Jefferson's River

Today we inner tubed at Nana and Papa's friend's river. It is really fun. You hike up a little ways with an inner tube and then you ride down. It's a little tricky going the right way on both forks, and getting off without washing away, but it's real fun. I got some sort of a rash on the back of my leg, or maybe a sunburn.
